Energy efficiency is a key initiative for us because the commercial real estate sector consumes an enormous amount of energy. Heating, cooling, lighting and various other building operational processes consume energy produced for the most part, from non-renewable sources. Electricity produced from the burning of fossil fuels such as natural gas, coal and oil produce greenhouse gases as a by-product of their combustion, in turn contributing to global warming and climate change.
We believe reducing our use of non-renewable energy and creating energy efficiencies to help reduce our greenhouse gas emissions is an important responsibility. As a result, we are using energy audits across our business and buildings to identify the equipment and processes that use energy in a wasteful manner. As we reduce our energy use, we are reducing expenses and freeing up capital for other purposes.
Redcliff supports changes to policies, codes and standards and the delivery of effective conservation programs in the establishment of a culture of energy conservation across Canada, particularly in Ontario, which is facing electricity shortages. We believe conservation is essential for the long-term sustainability of our Earth’s resources.
